AAC framing: ADTS, LATM and a container configuration
ADTS and LATM are AAC transport-framing contexts, while an MP4-family audio track can keep decoder configuration in its container representation. These are not listening-quality presets or synonyms for AAC-LC and HE-AAC. Identify both the actual codec profile and packaging before choosing a receiving workflow.

Record the stream and the transport independently
Inspect a permitted source with FFprobe and note the reported format, audio codec, profile, sample rate and channels. A raw .aac extension does not by itself establish every transport detail. A transport stream can also contain AAC within a larger program, so select the intended audio component rather than assuming the file has only one soundtrack.
Keep profile and framing questions separate. Repackaging compatible AAC does not change it from HE-AAC to AAC-LC or add channels. If the receiver lacks the required decoder profile, correcting packet headers may still leave an unplayable stream. That failure calls for a compatible representation or a justified transcode, not repeated extension changes.
Use the applicable remux path for ADTS
FFmpeg documents aac_adtstoasc as an encoded-stream filter that derives AudioSpecificConfig from ADTS headers and removes the ADTS framing for applicable container use. An illustrative local command is ffmpeg -n -i source.aac -map 0:a:0 -c:a copy -bsf:a aac_adtstoasc review.m4a for an actual compatible ADTS source. Confirm that source assumption first.
The filter is not a universal LATM parser or a guarantee that arbitrary raw data can be copied into MP4. FFmpeg automatically inserts it for specified applicable muxing paths. Choose the input demuxer and output container for the real representation, keep the original, and inspect any reported error before trying a different conversion. A new output path avoids accidentally replacing the source.
Verify sound, boundary timing and receiver support
Inspect the saved codec, duration and channel arrangement, then listen to its start, middle and ending in the receiving application. Check a distinct beginning word or impact for unexpected padding or truncation. AAC priming and timeline interpretation are separate boundary questions; successful removal of transport headers does not establish sample-exact alignment with a picture edit.
If the derivative plays only in one receiver, review profile, configuration and packaging support together. Record the original and derivative roles and avoid claiming improved fidelity from a stream-copy operation. SocialVidDownloader does not expose arbitrary ADTS or LATM import and repackaging controls. This is an external local handoff for media you may process, and any accepted file should be described by its inspected properties rather than a presumed quality level associated with the extension.
Worked example
Example: a receiver needs an M4A container, while a retained compatible AAC source uses ADTS framing. A local remux can move the encoded audio into the requested container representation. The team checks the beginning and ending and retains the source; the operation does not automatically change AAC profile or restore lost recording detail.
