Find a downloaded video on Android before checking Gallery

Check your browser’s completed downloads and then your device’s Files app. A saved video does not have to appear in Gallery to be present. Android file managers and media indexing differ by manufacturer, so start with the actual filename and destination rather than a particular gallery screen.

Locate the file by its download record

In Chrome, open its download list and find the completed media entry. Note the filename, completion state and time. If the entry is still interrupted, the file has not become a complete retained copy simply because a video preview previously played. Use the browser’s file-opening or locating action where available.

Open the device’s file manager and inspect its Downloads area. Google describes Files as the usual location for saved Android files, while acknowledging manufacturer differences. Samsung devices may use My Files; another device may use a differently named file manager. Search for the prepared filename rather than assuming every device presents the same folder tabs.

Distinguish a local file from an app collection

Gallery is an indexed media view, whereas the file manager shows stored objects. An item can exist in Downloads while its type, location or indexing prevents it appearing in a gallery. Do not repeatedly download the same clip solely because Gallery does not show it.

Tap the completed file and check its duration and sound with an application that supports its actual container and codecs. A video stored as WebM or MKV may need different playback support from a familiar MP4. Moving a file into another folder changes its location, not its encoding, so it is not a reliable codec repair.

Troubleshoot missing or incomplete downloads

If neither the browser nor the file manager shows a completed entry, determine whether preparation failed or the subsequent transfer was interrupted. Check device storage and the browser’s error message. The temporary service link can expire even though a completed local copy would survive.

When the source remains public and authorized, analyze it again and save the verified output. Do not guess a Gallery permission setting to fix a server-side failure, and do not submit account credentials. Keep one verified copy and remove redundant partial files only after you have identified them; avoid deleting unrelated downloads while searching.

Worked example

For example, the browser lists clip-360p.mp4 as completed, and Files finds the same name in Downloads, but Gallery has no new item. Open that file directly and confirm the full duration. This is a media-library discovery issue, not proof that the platform download failed; creating several new copies would only complicate the search.
