ASS script resolution: verify caption coordinates after resizing video
ASS script resolution describes the coordinate context used for styled subtitle layout; it is not automatically the pixel dimensions of the accompanying movie. When changing picture size or handing off to another renderer, verify positions, margins and readable text. A spatial layout problem is not a reason to multiply every cue timestamp.

Retain the script and identify its coordinate context
Keep the authorized ASS resource with the exact source movie and required permitted fonts. Inspect its script information, including applicable PlayResX and PlayResY values, and the styles and events that use that context. Distinguish an absent or inconsistent declaration from a valid resource whose original layout simply does not suit a new delivery.
Record the original picture dimensions and intended recipient frame. Aspect ratio, cropping and letterboxing can change where important action appears even when the same coordinate-based text is readable. A position tied to one corner of the original composition may obscure a different part of a cropped version. Do not infer that changing width alone preserves every visual relationship.
Test the actual renderer before editing all positions
Load a working copy in an ASS-aware renderer with the intended movie. Select representative cues with long lines, explicit positions, signs and mixed scripts. Verify font availability separately: a fallback font can change wrapping and make a coordinate issue appear worse. Use the same resource in the target receiving workflow instead of judging only a sender’s cached preview.
Compare a render made with the original declaration against any proposed correction on a small test. If the source declaration was wrong, correct that identified error. If the delivery has intentionally changed composition, review the layout adaptation as an editorial change. Rewriting every coordinate or the script resolution indiscriminately can shift margins, signs and override positions together in ways a single example does not reveal.
Verify spatial and temporal properties separately
Inspect the exported result’s beginning, several complex cues and the ending. Check that text is visible, does not cover essential content and retains the intended alignment and wrapping. Verify any explicit signs against the action they label. A numerically scaled position is not automatically a good reading position after a crop or an aspect-ratio change.
Keep cue times unchanged when the task is purely spatial and the media timeline did not change. If the movie was also trimmed or retimed, handle that separate version-matching requirement explicitly. Preserve the richer original and record any layout adaptation and rendering dependencies. SocialVidDownloader’s supplied-SRT burn-in tool does not promise arbitrary ASS coordinate or style preservation. Use an appropriate external renderer for this authorized handoff and judge the actual saved derivative rather than claiming that readable source text guarantees an unchanged presentation.
Worked example
Example: a captioned landscape movie becomes a portrait crop. Its cue times remain correct, but an ASS sign positioned near the old right edge no longer suits the visible action. The editor reviews coordinate context and layout in a separate derivative instead of rescaling time or calling the crop an unchanged styled master.
