Audio is out of sync with a downloaded video

Compare the source and local file at several timestamps. A constant audio offset, steadily increasing drift, and occasional playback stutter suggest different causes. Check a compatible player and the selected source audio before assuming that downloading or merging introduced the timing problem.

Identify the timing pattern

Listen at the beginning, middle, and end where speech or a visible action offers a useful reference. Note whether sound is consistently early or late, progressively drifts, or falls behind only during difficult playback. Use the same saved copy for each check.

Compare the authorized source at those positions. If its timing is already wrong, a faithful stream copy can preserve that defect. For alternate source audio, make sure you are listening to the corresponding version rather than a separate edit with a different duration. Dialogue translation can also change visible lip correspondence without representing a technical stream offset.

Rule out playback and output-device effects

Test the complete file in another compatible player. Compare direct device speakers with your usual output where practical: a wireless audio path or player adjustment can change perceived timing. Check whether the player has a saved synchronization offset from another video.

Inspect file duration and transfer completion. Stuttering decode or missing data can disrupt playback without a simple constant timing error. Do not interpret a momentary pause as evidence that all streams require retiming. Keep a record of which device and output path produced the symptom, since changing several conditions at once makes comparisons less useful.

Troubleshoot the selected streams and limits

If the source inventory offers another suitable combined output, test it as a controlled alternative. Combining video and audio is packaging work; it does not automatically correct every source timestamp or create a matching soundtrack from unrelated recordings.

A player's temporary synchronization adjustment may help with a consistent local offset, but it is not proof that the saved file was repaired. Avoid repeatedly remuxing or transcoding without identifying the cause. Preserve the source comparison, timing pattern, selected language, and player result when reporting an issue. If drift is present in the original recording, correcting it requires editing decisions beyond choosing a higher download quality, and SocialVidDownloader should not promise automatic restoration.

Worked example

Illustrative case: dialogue is late by a similar amount at both the first and last scene in one player, while another player is synchronized. Investigating the first player's saved audio offset is more relevant than downloading 4K. Increasing drift in both players calls for a different diagnosis.
