AV1 video: choose a file your device can decode
AV1 describes video compression, not a resolution or a guarantee that every device can play the file. An available AV1 stream can preserve source quality efficiently, but compatibility and decoding performance still matter. Check the complete container-and-codec combination on your intended player before choosing it.

Separate codec choice from pixel dimensions
A source can offer different codecs at the same resolution or one codec across several resolutions. An AV1 label does not tell you whether a clip is 720p, 1080p, or 4K. Read the dimensions and frame rate alongside the codec in the returned inventory.
The source determines which streams exist. SocialVidDownloader should list what extraction returns rather than adding a fictitious AV1 or 4K choice. Downloading an available stream does not restore detail absent from the upload. If your preferred combination is missing, choose another real option or keep the original source where you have access.
Check the actual playback target
Try a complete representative file on the device and application that will receive it. Support can depend on the operating system, player, hardware decoder, and container. A browser preview working on your laptop does not establish that an older television or phone will handle the saved copy.
A software decoder may support a stream but require more processing than the device can comfortably provide. Stuttering is therefore different from a missing decoder error. Check local storage availability and transfer completion too; incomplete data can fail regardless of codec. Avoid attributing every playback issue to AV1 solely because its name is unfamiliar.
Troubleshoot with available alternatives
If AV1 is unsuitable for the target, inspect other returned video formats. A compatible lower-resolution output may be more useful than the highest-resolution stream. Evaluate whether audio is included or must be merged before saving; video-codec selection does not establish audio presence.
Changing an extension cannot change AV1 into H.264. Transcoding would decode and re-encode the pictures, with its own time, quality, and compatibility tradeoffs; it is distinct from packaging existing streams. Keep the tested player, dimensions, codec, and failure message when reporting a problem. Those facts support a practical format decision without pretending that any codec is universally best or that a smaller file always looks better.
Worked example
Illustrative case: two genuine 1080p choices use different codecs. The AV1 copy plays on a recent desktop but stutters on the receiving device; a compatible alternative plays smoothly there. The decision changes playback suitability while keeping resolution separate from compression format.
