Karaoke captions: preserve word timing or label its loss
Karaoke presentation can change individual words or syllables while one caption cue remains visible. A simpler subtitle export may retain the wording and overall cue interval but lose those internal highlight events. Decide which timing granularity the recipient needs before accepting a format conversion as complete.

Identify the internal timing representation
Retain the permitted caption source and corresponding recording. WebVTT can include timestamp tags within a cue payload, subject to its timing rules. ASS karaoke effects encode timing and presentation through format-specific override tags. These mechanisms are not interchangeable with a plain sentence placed between a single start and end time.
Inspect a representative cue in a format-aware editor and compare the highlighted progression with the actual speech or music. Do not print structural timestamps or override tags as spoken dialogue. Also avoid deleting every marked section with a text replacement: formatting and timing syntax can be removed while leaving the visible wording, but that deliberately changes the deliverable’s behavior.
Choose the delivery scope before converting
Ask whether the recipient needs selectable dialogue captions, synchronized karaoke highlights or both. Confirm that the actual renderer supports the intended internal timing and styling. A format name alone does not establish that a particular application uses every feature. Test a short authorized passage containing several timed words rather than one long static line.
If the receiving format cannot represent the required progression, retain the richer source alongside a clearly labeled simplified version or create a separately reviewed visible rendering. Converting to ordinary SRT cues is not automatically equivalent to retaining karaoke events. Splitting one sentence into many cues also changes presentation and reading behavior; review that as an editorial adaptation, not a lossless syntax substitution.
Verify wording and progression independently
Open the actual saved output in the recipient’s player. Check the first highlighted word, transitions within the line and the final word. Compare wording, overall cue boundaries and internal changes as separate properties. A successful export and readable sentence can coexist with missing highlight timing, wrong font layout or a renderer that ignores the internal markers.
Keep the source timing and any required permitted fonts or styles with the accepted handoff. Label intentional simplification so later editors do not mistake it for the richer original. Do not claim that highlighting proves a transcription is accurate or grants permission to reproduce lyrics. SocialVidDownloader’s supplied-SRT burn-in workflow does not promise arbitrary ASS karaoke or WebVTT timestamp-tag support. Use an appropriate external renderer for that authorized task and verify the resulting movie if visible highlights are the chosen deliverable.
Worked example
Example: an ASS caption progresses across syllables during a song. A text conversion retains the lyric and its five-second cue but removes karaoke tags. The recipient receives that file as simplified captions plus the retained source, rather than being told that the selectable text preserves every original highlight event.
