Updated creator captions: keep the archived text version identifiable
A caption update on a source platform does not automatically revise a sidecar you already retained. Keep the earlier text and its matching movie identifiable, obtain an authorized current resource where available, and compare actual changes before accepting a new pair. Updated wording and changed video timing are separate version questions.

Identify the retained movie and earlier caption resource
Locate the actual completed movie and sidecar rather than only a platform link or remembered player setting. Record their known source identity, language and retrieval or export date. A file modification time can reflect copying rather than authorship, so keep its meaning distinct from the creator’s stated revision date.
Open the earlier resource against its exact movie and inspect a recognizable cue. Keep that working pair unchanged while reviewing a proposed update. A later platform edit can change the movie itself, making a new caption timeline unsuitable for the older retained picture even when the title is unchanged.
Obtain the current authorized text without assuming automatic sync
Use the owner’s or platform’s supported caption handoff when you are entitled to obtain it. For a video you manage, YouTube Studio’s documented subtitle editor can download the selected language track. That owner workflow is separate from public-source video downloading or local extraction of an already embedded supported text track.
Save the new resource under a distinct version name and identify its actual format. Do not overwrite the earlier sidecar just because the creator reports a correction. A current visible caption menu does not establish that you obtained a complete exported file, and changing its extension does not convert syntax or preserve presentation features.
Compare wording and time relationships independently
Read the changed cue and its surrounding context in both resources. Check corrected names, numbers, punctuation and meaningful sound labels against the recording. Note whether the change corrects a mistake, translates text or follows a new video edit rather than treating every changed line as the same revision type.
Compare cue starts and ends with the intended retained movie, including a later passage. A text-only correction can preserve timing, while a source trim or retime can change it. Do not apply a guessed global offset solely to make one updated cue align; confirm the actual source version and mapping first.
Verify and record the accepted pairing
Load the proposed resource explicitly in the receiving player and verify beginning, changed passage and ending. Inspect readability, language and the actual selected track. A player remembering the old sidecar can produce a misleading comparison, so check which named resource is currently active.
Record the accepted movie/text association and what changed, preserving the earlier pair where the retention task requires it. SocialVidDownloader does not synchronize an archive’s captions with future creator changes or certify every revised word. Leave an update mismatched or unreviewed when the evidence is incomplete rather than silently replacing historic wording and claiming that the archive remained unchanged.
Worked example
Example: the creator fixes a caption after also trimming the source introduction. The new wording is accurate, but its local cue times do not match the older retained movie. The reviewer preserves the earlier pair and approves a separately identified matching revision instead of overwriting the old sidecar blindly.
