Downloaded video has no sound: identify the missing stage

First check player volume, the selected audio track, and whether the saved file contains audio at all. A video-only source format cannot play sound until a compatible audio stream is included. Silence can also come from the source recording, so a successful transfer alone does not guarantee audible content.

Check playback controls and the source recording

Confirm that the player, system, and output device are not muted. Test a known working local recording through the same speakers or headphones. If that also produces silence, changing the downloaded format will not repair the output device.

Listen to the authorized source at the same point in the recording. Some clips are intentionally silent or have sections without sound. If the source has audio, open the local player's audio-track menu and check that a track is enabled. With multiple tracks, listen to each available option rather than assuming the default contains the dialogue you expected.

Inspect whether an audio stream exists

Use the player's media information to check for an audio stream and its codec. A file extension describes a container, not a promise of sound. One MP4 can contain video and audio while another contains video alone. An unsupported audio codec can produce moving pictures without audible playback.

Compare the saved file with the selected output. Where a source exposes separate video and audio, choose an available combined or merged output. SocialVidDownloader's readiness checks should finish before the file is offered; a failed merge should produce an error rather than a successful silent substitute. Do not rename an audio-free file and expect a stream to appear.

Troubleshoot the result without inventing audio

If the file contains a supported audio stream, try a compatible player and test different positions. Sound in one player but not another suggests a decoding or playback setting issue. Silence everywhere, including the original, is not evidence of a download defect.

If the chosen source format omitted audio, perform a fresh analysis and select an option that genuinely includes it. The service cannot retrieve a language or recording that is absent from the returned source inventory. Preserve the selected format, player, and audio-stream finding when reporting a failure. Those facts distinguish an output-selection error, codec limitation, mute setting, and silent source without speculative fixes.

Worked example

Illustrative case: a completed file has a video stream but no audio stream. Volume changes cannot help. A fresh analysis exposes a combined option containing the source audio; selecting that option addresses the missing stream. If no source audio exists, the limitation remains.
