Editing-project paths: relative references, absolute locations and relinking
An editable project can reference media by a location or by a path resolved relative to an application-defined base. Moving the project and moving the media are therefore different actions. Identify the expected source and path relationship before relinking; a disappeared warning is not proof that the correct recording was connected.

Identify the resource and path base
Record the affected project item, expected filename and previous storage location through the editor's supported resource or missing-media view. An absolute path can point to a volume or directory unavailable on the recipient's computer. A relative reference depends on its base and folder relationship; do not assume every editor resolves it from the current working directory.
Preserve the original project and media arrangement while making a working copy. Locate the intended recording using recognizable content, duration and a trusted source identifier or checksum where available. Similar basenames across recording days, proxies and language versions can produce plausible but incorrect matches.
Choose a scoped repair or deliberate collected package
If the intended source still exists, use the editor's documented relink or locate-resource workflow on the project copy. Premiere's Link Media is one example; other editors have different controls and matching rules. Review automatic matches after reconnecting one resource rather than assuming an entire folder of similarly named clips was safely repaired.
For a portable handoff, use a supported collection or archive workflow and preserve the required directory structure. Copying only the project file does not embed external recordings. Copying the media without the project can preserve source bytes but omit the editable arrangement. Document resources supplied separately, including captions, graphics and linked projects.
Verify independence without a destructive demonstration
Open the receiving project from the intended new location and inspect its resolved resource paths where possible. Test representative opening, middle and ending edits, including sound and linked visual assets. Use a controlled comparison that keeps originals recoverable; deleting the source folder is not required to demonstrate a handoff's independence.
If another take or proxy was connected, stop and resolve identity before shifting edits to compensate. Keep updated paths and source evidence in the handoff notes without exposing private account tokens. SocialVidDownloader does not relink editing projects or reconstruct editable state from a rendered movie. Its completed local media can be an authorized input, but project paths, actual assets and the receiving editor's supported behavior still require their own verification.
Worked example
Example: a project expects footage/day1/interview.mp4 relative to its saved package. The recipient copies only the project into another folder and the reference fails. Restore the intended package relationship or relink the verified source; choosing a day2 movie with the same basename would make the warning disappear while changing the edit's content.
