Detected black or frozen intervals need recording context

A detector flag is a candidate observation, not proof that a movie is damaged or that an interval should be removed. Black pictures and still images can be intentional. Review the source context, selected thresholds and wanted sound before treating an automated black or freeze interval as a repair task.

Choose a known interval and appropriate detector

Keep the unchanged authorized recording and identify the time span under investigation. FFmpeg blackdetect and freezedetect answer different picture questions. They do not diagnose absent audio, confirm original acquisition history or decide whether a scene is useful to the viewer. Record the selected stream and actual analysis interval.

Use the installed filter's documented parameters and review a bounded sample before scanning more material. A threshold can classify dark detail as black or subtle movement as a freeze. Conversely, a noisy or animated defect may escape a simple detector. Do not replace source observations with a universal preset copied from another recording.

Review the flagged interval against meaningful content

Play from before the reported start through its end and listen as well as watch. A fade to black, chapter pause, held diagram or deliberate suspense shot can belong to the intended edit. Removing it can shorten the timeline or omit spoken explanation even if the detector correctly identified its picture property.

Compare the same bytes in a compatible receiver if damage is suspected. A playback stall or decoder concealment can differ from a genuinely repeated stored picture. If the actual source contains a missing interval, detection cannot reconstruct the unrecorded event or prove what should have appeared there.

Verify any authorized derivative and its limits

When an edit is justified, preserve the original, use a distinct output and inspect the new boundary, sound and associated captions. A removed interval changes duration and time correspondence. Do not label a timeline with cuts as a repaired unchanged original simply because the automatic report becomes shorter.

Record accepted and intentionally retained flags so another reviewer can understand the decision. SocialVidDownloader does not certify content from detector output or automatically recover lost frames. Its splitter, trimmer and other local tools have separate bounded workflows; any chosen edit must still be checked as a real saved artifact with its purpose and remaining uncertainty stated honestly.

Worked example

Example: blackdetect marks a quiet fade between two tutorial chapters while the narrator finishes a warning. Removing the whole flagged interval would cut meaningful speech. Review the source and decide the actual edit requirement rather than calling every detected black span a broken download.
