A failed filter graph can leave an incomplete output path
A created filename does not prove that a filter graph completed successfully. Check the processing result and inspect the output before accepting it. A failure can leave incomplete bytes, and an apparently plausible extension or short playable opening cannot turn those bytes into the requested finished derivative.

Treat command completion as evidence, not the filename
Encoding can create an output before all requested input has been decoded or all filters have finished. An invalid configuration, unavailable processor or processing deadline can interrupt the job. Inspect the reported completion state rather than accepting a newly visible file merely because it ends in MP4.
Keep an unchanged source and record the operation you intended. Distinguish a rejected settings request from a job that began processing and then failed. The first requires a valid configuration; the second may concern the actual media, an available filter or the permitted resource budget. Repeating the same failing setup indefinitely does not establish success.
Require a verified result before offering delivery
The upload-processing backend waits for a successful FFmpeg exit, requires an actual nonempty output within its size budget and inspects supported media before publishing a ready result. A failed operation removes its working output directory. These checks prevent an intermediate filename from becoming a fake download link.
Timeouts and cancellation also end processing rather than continuing an endless retry loop. The interface shows a processing state while work is active; it does not manufacture an encoding percentage from a timer. An actual upload percentage is different because the browser can measure bytes sent during the transfer.
Verify the accepted file in its receiving context
After a successful result, save the file before the temporary link expires and review the intended transformation. Check opening, ending and meaningful joins, as well as picture, sound and duration where relevant. Structural validity cannot tell you whether a watermark text or selected interval was the editorial choice you intended.
If preparation fails, revise the input or settings and start a separately identified attempt. Never present an abandoned partial file as the final version. Friendly errors should explain what the user can try without exposing server paths, filter command lines or private diagnostics. Retaining the original file keeps a failure from becoming a destructive editing workflow.
Worked example
A filter configuration fails after an output file has been opened. The existence of output.mp4 is insufficient evidence of completion. The service reports a failed job and removes that working output, while the authorized source stays available for a corrected attempt. A later ready result refers to a newly verified file, not the discarded partial one.
