HTTP 429: recognize throttling before retrying

HTTP 429 means the responding service reports too many requests under its policy. Identify whether the response came from SocialVidDownloader or the source provider, and honor any retry guidance. Repeated clicks, parallel jobs or changed network identities are not a reliable or appropriate way to turn a throttled request into a supported download.

Identify the responding service and scope

A workflow can encounter limits while submitting analysis, checking a job or retrieving source resources. The visible 429 describes one responding service's policy; it does not by itself reveal the precise counter, account scope or time window.

MDN documents 429 as too many requests and notes that a response can include Retry-After. Keep that explicit throttling signal separate from a generic provider outage or unsupported-content result.

Record the stage and approximate time. Do not infer that a video is private, deleted or permanently unavailable from a request-rate response alone.

Check retry guidance instead of multiplying requests

If the response supplies Retry-After, follow the stated waiting guidance rather than inventing a shorter interval. A service can express retry timing in more than one form, so use the product's interpreted message when available.

Stop launching duplicates while an existing request is throttled. Parallel attempts can add load without solving the restriction. Closing a page or repeatedly resubmitting the same source does not establish that a rate-limit window has reset.

If no timing guidance is supplied, avoid pretending there is a universal safe number of seconds. Wait conservatively and use the relevant service documentation or support path for persistent limits.

Protect existing results and local copies

A throttled new analysis does not invalidate a complete file already saved to your device. Check local storage and playback before creating another request for the same content.

A pending job and a ready file are also different states. Do not claim that a request succeeded because a previous preview exists, or that every delay means the source changed. Preserve the actual status message.

SocialVidDownloader does not promise unlimited extraction or immunity from provider restrictions. A source that remains public can still be unavailable to the current processing request.

Report persistent throttling safely

Include the platform, stage, approximate time and sanitized response text. State whether one request or repeated submissions preceded the issue, without sharing account secrets, signed URLs or network credentials.

Do not switch identities or attempt access-evasion tactics as a workaround. If a permitted public workflow remains unavailable, an owner-provided export may be the practical alternative.

A useful support report preserves the distinction between an explicit 429 and other failures. That lets maintainers examine actual rate behavior without fabricating a cause or successful downloadable output.

Worked example

Example: several rapid analyses are followed by a 429 with retry guidance. Stop duplicate submissions, follow that guidance and keep any already saved complete file. If the issue persists later, report the stage and sanitized timing evidence rather than claiming the source video was removed.
