OBS Hybrid MP4 and MOV: verify the finalized recording
OBS Hybrid MP4 and Hybrid MOV use fragmented writing followed by normal finalization for a more widely compatible presentation. A recording indicator or surviving application window is not the verified movie. Inspect the actual output after stopping, and treat an interrupted artifact separately from a gracefully finalized delivery before claiming that sound, pictures and navigation survived.

Identify the actual native format and source scope
Inspect Settings, Output and the selected Recording Format in the installed OBS version. Hybrid MP4 and Hybrid MOV are native choices with version and codec requirements, not labels created by renaming an ordinary file. Record the actual output path and required video/audio contributions before starting a permitted recording.
A conventional finished MP4 and fragmented MP4 arrange media metadata differently. Fragmentation alone does not establish corruption, but a recipient may have narrower handling. An MP4 extension does not determine which layout, codecs or completion state the file actually contains. Keep those properties separate when diagnosing an unavailable preview.
Stop normally and inspect the actual final artifact
For a planned recording, use the supported stop workflow and wait for completion before moving the resulting file. OBS describes hybrid finalization as a soft-remux that makes its fragmented internal arrangement appear like a regular MP4 or MOV to compatible software. Do not disable finalization through debugging settings for an ordinary receiving delivery.
Locate the actual produced file rather than using only the last recording’s visible timer. Open it independently and inspect beginning, a meaningful middle and the final wanted event. Check duration and stream inventory, then listen to every required recorded soundtrack. A readable opening does not verify the ending or all configured audio contributions.
Verify interrupted files without inventing missing content
The hybrid design improves the recoverability of interrupted writing, but that does not recreate samples never written to storage. Preserve an interrupted artifact and its job context separately. Test the actual receiver and any supported recovery or remux route on a new output; do not overwrite the only retained recording to make it look finalized.
OBS documents that hybrid chapter markers are written during finalization and are not recoverable after a crash in that described workflow. A playable interrupted movie can therefore lack navigation information expected from the running session. Verify chapters and other required metadata independently instead of inferring complete recovery from the surviving picture.
Deliver a compatible representation with honest scope
Confirm the recipient’s support for the actual codec and container combination. Hybrid MP4 and MOV have different codec acceptance, and the encoder’s ability to write an option is not universal playback compatibility. If a separate authorized remux is suitable, use the native supported workflow and verify the new artifact’s actual selected resources.
Retain the parent, accepted output and observation about graceful or interrupted termination. SocialVidDownloader does not configure OBS’s hybrid muxer or guarantee recovery of crashed native recordings. Its downloader and upload results remain bounded verified files. Leave missing endings, sound or required chapters unresolved rather than declaring every hybrid artifact a complete recovered master.
Worked example
Example: an interrupted hybrid recording plays its written pictures, but the chapter markers expected from the session are absent. The reviewer preserves that actual playable artifact, documents its interrupted scope and does not claim that every navigation resource was restored with the movie.
