OBS monitoring, recording tracks and channels are separate routes

OBS listening monitoring, source-to-track assignment and recording output selection are separate routing decisions. Hearing a source while recording does not prove that the delivered file contains it. Trace the actual path and inspect saved tracks and channel roles before diagnosing a source-language problem or missing original sound.

Identify the intended listening and recording paths

Keep a short permitted test source and identify what the final receiver needs: a complete reference mix, separated contributions or another known arrangement. Monitoring allows local listening; it is not the same as routing that signal into a recording. Inspect the installed advanced audio controls and keep any monitor-only behavior separate from output behavior.

Compare the expected microphone and application contributions independently. Avoid creating duplicate capture or feedback by monitoring a source into another active input without understanding that path. A loud mixer meter cannot establish the audience's final soundtrack, and changing monitor volume need not repair an absent recorded contribution.

Assign sources and enable the recording tracks

OBS's documented multiple-track workflow opens Advanced Audio Properties from the mixer or Edit menu, assigns sources to the intended recording tracks, then enables the required tracks in Settings > Output. Check both steps. A source assigned to a track that is not recorded will not appear there merely because it was audible in monitoring.

A complete reference mix can be kept on one track while separate contributions use additional tracks when the task requires them. Ordinary receivers may play one track at a time, so separately recorded voices are not automatically heard together. Channel count and layout inside each track are another layer; inspect Settings > Audio and actual saved layout instead of labelling surround components as languages.

Verify the actual file and its intended receiver

Open the saved sample, inspect its track list and listen to each required contribution. Check the combined listening track as well as separated tracks, overlapping speech and the ending. For multichannel output, verify known speaker positions and the receiving system rather than inferring retained spatial detail from an audible center sound.

Preserve source and routing notes for a reproducible session. If one route is wrong, make a focused supported change and record another short test before relying on it. SocialVidDownloader does not configure OBS monitoring or create source stems absent from a supplied recording. Its real multi-track download options remain governed by actual inventory, separate from these native recording tracks and spatial channels.

Worked example

Example: music and speech are recorded to different tracks, but the default player selects only the music track. The voice may exist in another real saved stream. Inspect the file and intended reference mix before declaring it missing, and do not equate two spatial channels with those separate contributions.
