An SRT skips cues: check timestamps and block structure

When an SRT loads but skips cues, inspect its text structure before changing the movie. Timestamp punctuation, incomplete timing lines and broken block separation can affect parsing. Keep the original sidecar, make a small corrected copy and test the actual receiver rather than assuming readable dialogue guarantees a valid subtitle resource.

Identify the actual format and first failing block

Open a copy in a trusted text editor and confirm that it contains cue blocks rather than an HTML response or another caption format. A typical SRT block has a numeric cue index, a timing line and text, separated from neighboring blocks by a blank line. A .srt suffix alone does not establish that structure.

Compare a working cue with the first skipped cue. Look for a missing separator, a truncated timing line or dialogue accidentally joined to a neighboring block. Do not delete unfamiliar words to make the file parse. Preserve the spoken content and source version while isolating a structural test around a known passage.

Check timing syntax and intended intervals

A conventional SRT timing line looks like 00:00:12,500 --> 00:00:15,000. The comma introduces milliseconds in that representation. WebVTT uses its own syntax and header, so substituting a dot or changing the extension is not a complete format conversion. Review both timestamp fields and the arrow, not just the digits in one start time.

Check that the cue's intended end follows its start and that its interval matches the recording. A parser accepting unusual punctuation is not proof that another receiver will handle it. Numbering and error tolerance vary among implementations, so use a format-aware validator or importer for the required target instead of promising that one forgiving player's success certifies every SRT consumer.

Verify the corrected resource in playback

Load the revised file explicitly alongside the exact movie and inspect the first previously missing cue, nearby blocks and a later cue. Listen to the matching speech and check that a structural correction did not move timing or merge dialogue. Confirm accented characters and line breaks where those features occur.

Save the accepted revision under a distinct name and record the original issue and receiving application. If words are garbled, investigate encoding separately; if cues gradually drift, check the recording version and time mapping. SocialVidDownloader does not offer an SRT syntax-repair service. Its local burn-in tool requires a usable supplied subtitle resource, while source downloading does not invent missing caption files or certify the wording's accuracy.

Worked example

Example: a cue uses 00:00:12,500 --> 00:00:15,000 but the preceding block lacks its closing blank line after an edit. The receiver skips the new cue. Repair a test copy's block separation, load it explicitly and verify that the intended sentence appears at the correct time instead of altering the video soundtrack.
