TTML nested timing: resolve the containing timeline before export

A TTML cue's timing can depend on its containing elements and the document's timing parameters. Do not assume every begin value is an absolute timestamp in the final movie. Resolve the actual time-container model and effective interval before converting text or diagnosing an apparent offset.

Inspect parameters and ancestors together

Identify the TTML profile and inspect relevant time-base, frame-rate and tick-rate parameters. Then trace the containing elements for the affected cue, including their begin, end, duration and time-container context. A parser accepting the XML does not by itself tell a text-only exporter how to express the effective cue time in another format.

Keep frames, ticks and clock-time expressions distinct. A frame-based value is interpreted under the document's declared timing model, not automatically the video player's rounded frame-rate label. Preserve the original document and use a format-aware importer rather than manually replacing unfamiliar suffixes with decimal seconds.

Review effective intervals before applying a correction

In a simple parallel-container illustration, a parent starting at 10 seconds and a child beginning 2 seconds relative to that parent can produce a 12-second start in the containing timeline. That is an illustrative declared context, not a formula for every nested or sequential TTML document. Parent activity and end constraints also affect what can actually be displayed.

Select a cue whose intended spoken passage is identifiable and compare its effective time in the importer with the recording. If several cues shift together because a parent interpretation was lost, fix the source interpretation or conversion path before adding a separate global offset. Otherwise a later correct container can be shifted incorrectly as well.

Verify the delivered caption resource at transitions

Export to a new supported resource and inspect early, middle and final cues, especially around parent/container boundaries and edited recording changes. Check appearance and disappearance, not only whether a sentence exists in the file. A structurally valid output can still place a cue outside the intended interval or truncate its display.

Record the source profile, importer and receiving format and retain the source document. If the target cannot represent required timing or presentation behavior, state that limitation rather than stripping structure and declaring preservation. SocialVidDownloader does not provide TTML timeline resolution or timed-text conformance certification. This is a separate authorized caption workflow, and its accepted output must match the actual movie version rather than a guessed universal timestamp correction.

Worked example

Example: an exporter treats a child cue's two-second begin value as absolute and shows it before the matching speech, while the source places it under a parent beginning at ten seconds. Confirm the time-container context and review the effective interval; changing the recording's audio would address the wrong stage.
