Test recovery of an authorized video backup
A backup is useful only if the required file and context can be recovered. Test restoration into a separate destination without deleting your working source, then verify the restored bytes and playback. A green sync icon or a list of filenames is not a complete recovery test.

Define a safe restoration test
Choose a permitted representative file, its manifest and the backup version you intend to recover. Use a separate test folder so recovery does not overwrite a working original or an editing project.
Record what failure the backup is meant to address: accidental deletion, device loss, an earlier version requirement or another concrete scenario. One test cannot establish protection against every failure mode.
Read the backup tool's current restore instructions. Apple documents item restoration with Time Machine; another system can have different version selection and destination behavior.
Recover the actual artifact and its context
Restore the media file, not just a shortcut or catalog entry. Recover the relevant source and derivative notes when those records are part of the archive's usefulness.
Wait for the operation to complete and verify local availability. A cloud service can show the item before every needed byte is present on the test machine.
Avoid making a destructive demonstration by deleting your only working source. A non-destructive separate-folder test provides useful evidence without creating unnecessary loss.
Check integrity and practical usability
Compare the restored file with an appropriate trusted checksum record using the same algorithm. That assesses byte correspondence, while opening the media assesses whether the artifact is usable for the intended task.
Watch the beginning, middle and end and check sound. If recovery is for an editing project, test the required source references and project import separately. A movie playing in one viewer does not certify the complete project.
If the digest differs, investigate whether you selected another version or recovered a derivative. Do not discard the reference record or automatically call the restored file corrupt.
Record results and resolve gaps
Note the recovery date, selected backup version, destination and checks performed. State what succeeded and what remained unverified. Useful recovery evidence is specific enough to repeat.
If permission notes or a required stream are missing, improve the backup set before relying on it. If recovery requires an account or key, ensure the authorized recovery procedure is available without putting secrets into the public manifest.
SocialVidDownloader does not provide a backup service or certify restoration. The retained download is one artifact in a broader permissioned storage workflow.
Worked example
Example: restore an archived interview and its manifest into a separate test directory. Compare the restored digest with the saved SHA-256 record, then check the whole file's duration and spaced playback landmarks. Keep the original untouched and document the backup version used.
