Use an editing proxy without replacing the source
An editing proxy is a separate working representation used to make a project easier to handle. It should remain associated with its retained source so the intended final workflow can use the proper media. A low-demand proxy is not a recovered original, and smooth proxy playback does not verify the final export.

Define the role of the working copy
A proxy can reduce editing demands by using a more convenient encoding or picture size. Its purpose is responsiveness and workflow compatibility, not permanent replacement of the best retained permitted source.
Keep the source in a deliberate location before making proxies. The source can be a platform rendition rather than the camera master, so describe its provenance precisely. The word source identifies its role in your project, not an unverified production history.
SocialVidDownloader does not generate or attach editor proxies. This is an external editing workflow applied to a completed authorized media file.
Check correspondence before attachment
A useful proxy must correspond to the intended pictures, duration and timing. The editor can have additional requirements for audio channels and other properties. Read its current documentation rather than assuming any small movie with the same name will attach correctly.

Test one representative source/proxy pair before producing a large set. Compare recognizable frames and speech landmarks at several points, not only the opening slate.
Preserve clear identities and links
Use distinguishable source and proxy locations or names, with a record connecting them. Do not overwrite the retained source while trying to reduce its size. Avoid ambiguous duplicates that make relinking guesswork.
If files must move, use the editor's documented relinking workflow and keep a recoverable project copy. A proxy remaining online can hide an unavailable source until final delivery.
Verify that switching proxy use presents the same content and timing. If it reveals different scenes or cumulative drift, resolve that correspondence before making further cuts.
Verify the final intended media path
Before delivery, confirm the project's source availability and the export workflow's actual media choice. Do not assume that every editor setting always exports the retained source instead of proxy data.
For Premiere, Adobe’s January 2026 export guidance says full-resolution media is the default even when proxy viewing is enabled. An intentional proxy export uses Export → Media File → General → Use Proxies. If Use Previews is also selected, rendered previews take precedence where a section has both a preview and proxy. Review those choices for the intended delivery, then inspect the actual file. An intentionally small review export should remain labelled as that representation rather than a recovered high-resolution source.
Inspect the final output's dimensions, picture details, selected sound and boundaries. Compare a few critical sections with the source. A responsive timeline preview cannot certify the delivery artifact.
Keep proxy-generation and relinking notes with the project. Those records help explain working copies without describing them as newly enhanced source quality.
Worked example
Example: a permitted high-demand clip gets a smaller editing proxy. The timeline is smooth, but the original is later moved. Before export, restore and verify the source link; a proxy preview alone does not show that the final deliverable will use the intended source representation.
