A video stalls on a network share: compare the same local copy
When a movie stalls only on a network share, compare the same complete file from a permitted local destination before changing its encoding. Network storage, mounted-volume behavior and receiver buffering can affect reads and seeking. A network-only stall does not by itself prove that the recorded frames or soundtrack are damaged.

Make a controlled same-file comparison
Identify the exact source path and version on the network volume. Ensure the recording is no longer being written or replaced. If authorized, copy it to a separate local destination and wait for completion. Compare an appropriate checksum when byte identity matters, then open that copy in the same receiving application.
Use the same timestamps and playback settings for the network and local tests. Watch continuous playback and seek to a later known scene. A comparison with another similarly titled file changes too many variables. Also confirm whether a media server supplies a transcoded playback rendition or the actual stored file; those are different artifacts.
Inspect access and read behavior separately
If local playback works, note whether the network symptom affects opening, sustained reading or seeking. A mounted network path, including a FUSE-backed mount, can expose a file-like interface while serving reads through another transport and cache. Its performance and seek behavior need not match a local disk even when the filename is visible.
Check the supported storage client for connection interruptions, unavailable mounts or an expired authorized session. Review competing transfers and the actual permitted network path with the administrator where relevant. Do not disable access controls, share credentials or broadly change mount permissions to make a player work. Connection loss and insufficient read throughput are different observations from codec incompatibility.
Verify a practical handoff without modifying the source blindly
If the permitted task can use a local copy, verify its beginning, difficult passage and ending and retain the network original until the handoff is accepted. If remote playback is required, report the exact client, volume type and network-only symptom so the relevant read path can be investigated. Preserve the controlled local result as evidence.
A smaller viewing derivative may reduce bandwidth needs but is a changed artifact, not proof that the original was corrupt. Keep its role and transformation clear. SocialVidDownloader does not manage NAS mounts or provide a network-volume repair service. Its saved output should be assessed as an actual file; repeatedly re-downloading a different representation before testing the same bytes can conceal the distinction between a source defect and the receiving storage path.
Worked example
Example: a movie seeks slowly over a mounted remote volume but plays and seeks normally from a checksum-matching local copy in the same player. Investigate the remote read/seek path and its supported client. A successful local comparison gives evidence about those bytes without proving that every network or server configuration is healthy.
