Post captions and movie versions: keep separate change records
A changed post caption or description is not by itself evidence that the encoded movie changed. Keep publication text and actual retained media versions in separate records. When the distinction matters, compare recognizable picture and sound or verified file evidence instead of treating a matching link, title or filename as proof of unchanged content.

Distinguish publication text from text inside the movie
On an Instagram item, identify whether the changed words are the post’s descriptive caption, selectable timed captions or visible text rendered into the video. Those are different resources. Editing a descriptive field does not automatically revise burned picture text or the words inside a separately retained file.
The same distinction applies to a Facebook video description or TikTok post text when such a change is made through the owner’s supported controls. Do not infer a universal media-replacement feature from a text-edit action. Retain the actual platform item identifier, the observed text and the observation date without copying private account credentials into the source note.
Preserve the parent and record the actual change scope
Keep the existing authorized recording and its retention identity. Add a separate note for changed publication text rather than renaming that older movie as if it were freshly verified. A caption can correct an attribution or describe new context while the stored media remains the same, but verify the relevant evidence before concluding that either outcome occurred.
If the owner supplies another movie, identify it separately and compare source context and content. A new published item, a changed rendition and a text-only update are not interchangeable version histories. Check actual identifiers and meaningful scenes rather than assuming that the same promotional thumbnail or similar title establishes a relationship.
Verify media evidence within its real scope
For completed files, inspect duration, selected tracks and recognizable early and later content with a suitable media tool. FFprobe can report the actual retained stream properties. Compare the required spoken words and action as well; matching resolution or duration does not prove identical recording content.
Use whole-file checksums when the question is whether two retained artifacts have identical bytes. Different hashes can reflect packaging or metadata changes as well as a changed edit, so do not label every mismatch new footage without inspection. A prior file and a currently accessible source are also different evidence objects: source analysis does not automatically compare their entire content for you.
Keep the manifest truthful and unresolved changes explicit
Record publication text updates, accepted media versions and uncertain relationships separately. For a TikTok creator-management listing or another owner dashboard, a refreshed title is management metadata rather than proof of a new completed local file. Verify the actual artifact before marking a retention task done.
SocialVidDownloader retrieves only supported actual source media and does not synchronize every later post-field change into files already retained. It cannot manufacture an earlier rendition from an unchanged link or certify every platform’s native replacement rules. Keep existing accepted content, label genuine new derivatives and preserve uncertainty when only descriptive text was observed.
Worked example
Example: an Instagram post receives a corrected description while an earlier authorized movie remains in an archive. The archivist records the text update separately, preserves the existing file and checks actual media evidence if a new rendition is claimed. A changed sentence alone is never reported as a verified replacement movie.
