Audacity realtime effects versus an applied waveform edit
A realtime effect remains a processing choice in the Audacity project, while an applied waveform operation changes the working audio representation. A saved audio export contains the rendered result rather than an independently editable effect stack. Keep the project and original recording when later adjustment matters, then verify the exported soundtrack outside the editor.

Identify the representation you intend to retain
Keep an authorized original and a separate saved project before changing the sound. Decide whether the recipient needs an adjustable edit, an audition or a finished soundtrack. Those are different artifacts: a waveform image does not demonstrate which effects the receiver can adjust, and a playable export is not a substitute for the project’s editing state.
Record the selected track, effect and application version. A process applied only to a selected region differs from an effect processing a whole track. Make a short comparison containing speech onsets, quiet detail and a louder passage so the choice can be heard under consistent playback conditions.
Use the native realtime panel deliberately
In the supported Audacity interface, open Effects or press E, use Add effect on the intended track and select an available effect. Click its name to change settings. Realtime effects process the whole track without rewriting the source waveform; closing their settings window does not stop their application.
Use the power control to bypass an effect or its stack for comparison. A master effect acts on the combined mix after track processing, gain and pan, so it has a different scope from the same processor on one voice track. Identify both scopes before deciding which sound changed. An unsupported or missing plugin is not evidence that a downloaded recording has lost audio.
Verify export and any deliberate rendering step
Export under a new name and open that actual audio file in an independent compatible player. The realtime stack is normally applied during export. Compare the same landmarks and listen for changed transients, pumping or quiet-word loss; an unchanged displayed waveform is not proof that the export stayed unprocessed.
If a waveform-rendered result is required, the documented Tracks, Mix, Mix and Render operation has a different commitment. Selecting several tracks mixes them together, and master effects are rendered on file export rather than by that track operation. Confirm selected tracks before accepting a flattened representation that may no longer support the intended separate contributions.
Keep the project and receiver requirements distinct
Save and reopen the retained project, checking available effects and the accepted settings. Keep source assets and document any required plugin rather than assuming every receiving installation has the same processor. An applied result can remain audible in an exported derivative even when the receiver cannot recreate the original editable stack.
SocialVidDownloader does not host Audacity projects or provide arbitrary realtime plugins. This is an authorized native editing workflow. Label the exported soundtrack and retained project separately, verify required channel layout and duration, and reject a wrong-scope render rather than calling it reversible because the original waveform once appeared unchanged.
Worked example
Example: an editor bypasses a track compressor to hear a comparison, then exports with it enabled. The exported soundtrack contains the enabled processing even though the source waveform was not rewritten. The reviewer keeps the project for future adjustment and verifies the saved file instead of judging only the waveform display.
