Audacity label exports: boundaries, source tracks and filenames

Audacity labels can define exported intervals, but a label is not itself an audio file. Multiple-file export can split by labels or by tracks, and those modes select different resources. Inspect effective boundaries, contributions and filenames before accepting a collection as a complete, correctly identified narration handoff.

Choose the actual labels and interval model

Keep a project copy and identify which passages should become separate files. Point labels mark starts, while region labels span selected intervals. A point-based final portion and a region-based final portion can include different ending material. Review complete words and intended context before deciding that every visible label is a useful file boundary.

The current manual uses the uppermost label track for label-based exporting. Inspect that track when the project contains several label collections. A waveform selection is not what determines intervals in this multiple-file mode, so highlighting a passage alone cannot repair a mismatched label export.

Review multiple-file mode, mix scope and names

In File > Export Audio, choose Multiple Files and inspect the split basis. Tracks produces an artifact per audio track under its documented scope; Labels uses the effective labels and relevant source tracks. Check which contributions are included and whether mute/solo has excluded a required speaker before starting.

Choose a naming option that preserves an unambiguous relationship to the intended passage. Label-based names, numbered names and prefix-based names have different identification behavior. Use a new destination and review overwrite choices rather than approving replacement of an earlier verified export. A descriptive label is not proof that its timing still matches after an edit.

Verify every receiving file against its passage

After export, count the expected artifacts and listen to each opening and ending. Confirm that region-only intervals did not silently omit wanted material outside the final region and that point intervals did not retain an unintended discussion. Inspect final size, duration and the actual receiving filename rather than relying only on an export result list.

Keep the project, original recording and label-to-output notes for revisions. Test sound from all required contributions and distinguish separate files from an independently selectable multitrack container. SocialVidDownloader does not import Audacity label tracks or provide native label-based audio export. Its video splitter is a separate operation, so only actual completed supplied files should enter a later website processing or retention workflow.

Worked example

Example: two label tracks exist, but only the uppermost one controls multiple export. The resulting files follow an old review segmentation instead of the newer narration plan. Identify the effective label track, correct the intended scope and verify each new file's spoken boundaries rather than renaming the old outputs alone.
