Find a saved video in Chrome download history

Open Chrome's Downloads list to distinguish a finished transfer from a failed one, then reveal the completed file in its folder. A thumbnail on the downloader page does not establish that Chrome saved anything. Start with the browser's record before repeating the download.

Read the entry before searching folders

Use Chrome's menu to open Downloads. Find the entry matching the time and filename of your transfer. A completed item, an interrupted item, and a blocked item call for different actions. Record the displayed message rather than assuming every missing file has the same cause.

For a completed item, use the location action where available. Desktop Chrome saves into the configured directory, but a destination prompt can override that location for an individual file. On Android, inspect Chrome's Downloads view and then the device file manager if you need to move the copy. Desktop keyboard shortcuts do not describe the Android interface.

Check the location and local copy

Open download settings if the destination is unexpected. Check the current save location and whether Chrome asks where to save each file. A work computer may use a managed directory. Changing that setting does not move files already saved somewhere else.

Check the video's name, extension, nonzero size, and playback. If you moved or deleted it, its history entry may remain while its original location no longer contains the video. Search by the filename or inspect the folder to which you moved it. Clearing browser history is not a recovery technique, and an old entry does not constitute a backup.

Troubleshoot the actual transfer stage

An interrupted transfer may leave an incomplete temporary file. A security warning requires checking the warning and source; do not disable protection simply to retrieve a video. If there is no entry, confirm the tool reached a downloadable state and that you pressed the actual file action.

Freshly analyze your authorized source if the download link expired. Choose an available format and save it once, watching the browser entry. If Chrome completed the transfer but the video will not play, investigate the saved media rather than repeatedly changing browser settings. Preserve the filename and error when seeking help so that the transfer and playback stages can be distinguished.

Worked example

Illustrative case: a preview plays, but Chrome has no new Downloads entry. Watching it did not start a file transfer. After using the ready file's download action, a completed entry appears; revealing its folder identifies the actual saved copy.
