Deliver Final Cut audio role stems instead of only a mixed soundtrack
A role-based audio delivery can give a mixer separate project contributions rather than only the finished combined soundtrack. Review the role assignments, output grouping and intended timeline scope before export. Stems are prepared from the supplied project arrangement; they do not unmix voices and music already combined in one source recording.

Agree on contributions and the receiving timeline
Ask whether the recipient needs dialogue, music, effects, a reference mix or another agreed grouping. Keep that list tied to the actual editable project. A request for separate contributions cannot be satisfied by renaming several identical copies of the completed mix.
Review which authorized sources belong to each role. If the only retained movie already combines voice and music, the project lacks independent clean contributions merely because you assign a label. Ask the supplier for the required original resources when appropriate and record any remaining limitation.
Agree on the shared interval and a recognizable synchronization reference. The recipient needs to know how each supplied contribution relates to the picture, including intentional silence. Keep the reference viewing export separate from the assets intended for further mixing.
Inspect roles before choosing separate or multitrack output
Apple documents exporting dialogue, music and effects through assigned media roles. The native route uses File → Share → Export File, then Settings and Roles. Its Roles as menu provides combined, multitrack and separate-file arrangements, with availability depending on the selected settings.
Choose according to the agreed handoff rather than assuming that every role must become a separate file. Check the actual list of contributions. Apple allows roles to be added to or combined within an output, so an export filename alone does not identify everything that it contains.
Keep channel layout separate from role identity. A stereo music contribution can remain one role, while two selectable language streams address another delivery question. Use the stream/channel guide when that distinction is unclear before accepting the export plan.
Check range selection and the actual output grouping
For sharing only part of a Final Cut project, Apple requires a range selection; selecting a clip is insufficient. Verify the intended beginning and ending before submitting the share. An apparently selected segment in the timeline is not enough evidence of the exported scope.
Review the Roles pane and the channels required for each contribution. Apple provides Mono, Stereo and Surround choices. Match the recipient’s actual request and preserve the original project arrangement rather than treating one layout as universally correct for every role.
Use distinct destination names and retain the source project. Check what appears after processing finishes. A completed share notification indicates workflow progress, while the output inventory and playback establish whether you prepared the intended contributions.
Verify the stems together as well as separately
Listen to each receiving file and identify its intended content. Check quiet passages, overlaps and the final meaningful event. A dialogue-labelled output containing the reference mix is a grouping problem even when the movie opens and sounds complete.
Load the delivered contributions against the agreed reference timeline and inspect recognizable picture-and-sound landmarks. Check the opening, a middle event and the ending. Do not promise that adding every stem must reproduce a reference mix exactly without reviewing the project’s processing and receiving mix arrangement.
Keep a short handoff note identifying each output and its role, interval and known omission. Preserve the editable project and authorized sources for revisions. A stem delivery supports a particular mixing task; it does not automatically replace a complete media archive or a tested library package.
Worked example
Illustrative delivery: a mixer requests dialogue and music separately for a tutorial. The editor reviews the source assignments, exports the agreed role contributions and checks them on the reference timeline. A baked-in voice-and-music source remains identified as mixed; it is not relabelled as a recovered clean dialogue stem.
