Final Cut synchronized clips: inspect sources before changing the sync
A synchronized clip arranges existing recordings together; it does not replace their missing content or prove that their timing is correct. In Final Cut, inspect the contained picture and sound before changing the arrangement. Use the documented Open Clip workflow to examine sync rather than assuming Break Apart is the required or available command for every selected container.

Create a named sync from the same recorded event
Select the intended browser sources and choose Clip > Synchronize Clips, or Option-Command-G. Name the resulting clip so the take and preferred sound are identifiable. The Use audio for synchronization option compares waveforms; not every recording is suitable for that analysis.
First listen to the separate recordings. A similar phrase from another take can look plausible while representing a different performance. Choose a shared transient or visible action and a later reference point. If a recorder started late, document the missing opening rather than expecting synchronization to supply it.
Separate original visibility from active audio
Apple’s Hide original clips option changes browser visibility. Deselect it when you want the sources to remain visible after creation. Disable audio components on AV clips can suppress camera reference sound when a separate recording is the intended soundtrack. Neither choice should be interpreted as proof that source media was erased.
Listen to the actual enabled components together. Keeping both camera reference and a separate microphone active can produce an unwanted doubled sound. Conversely, a disabled component can hide the only wanted contribution. Use component controls for inclusion decisions before attempting structural changes to the synchronized clip.
Open the contained arrangement for a timing correction
Select the synchronized clip and choose Clip > Open Clip. Apple documents adjusting alignment inside by moving connected clips relative to the primary storyline. Return through the timeline’s back arrow after the intended change. Preserve an editable version before altering a relationship used in the production edit.
Breaking apart a standard or compound clip is a separate operation, and command availability depends on the selected structure. Do not force a synchronized clip through a decomposition workaround merely to reach its sound. Opening its contents supplies the documented route for examining the recordings and making a sync adjustment without assuming all containers behave identically.
Verify both alignment and the original-media handoff
Compare the initial landmark and later speech against the intended picture. A consistent offset and progressively increasing drift are different findings; a single drag that fixes one clap may leave the ending wrong. Keep the source identities with the project so another editor can understand which recording supplied the accepted soundtrack.
Share a representative passage, reopen it and check the selected sound and picture timing. Preserve the underlying media for an editable handoff. A synced clip name or completed share is not a replacement for those files, and SocialVidDownloader cannot reconstruct the original project relationships from the flattened review movie.
Worked example
Example: a camera microphone is disabled after aligning a separate recorder. The editor later sees fewer browser items and quiet camera components, but the sources remain retained. They open the synchronized clip to inspect the recorder alignment instead of treating the display changes as lost media.
