HandBrake range selection: title, seconds, frames or chapters
HandBrake’s Range controls select part of the chosen source title for encoding. Chapters, seconds and frames describe different selection units; they are not interchangeable source identities. Select the intended title first, record the interval, and inspect the saved boundaries because the official documentation does not guarantee exact frame accuracy for every source.

Choose the title and interval before encoding
Open the authorized source and let scanning finish. Select the intended Title and inspect its duration and recognizable content. A title can represent a feature or episode rather than the entire package. Selecting a chapter range inside the wrong title cannot produce the desired recording even when the chapter numbers match a note.
Keep the full source and record the expected first and last action or phrase. A timestamp alone may be ambiguous when a source contains an introduction or an alternate version. Make sure the recipient wants an excerpt and preserve any surrounding context needed to interpret it.
Use the native Range units deliberately
Choose Chapters when the intended selection follows actual detected chapter boundaries. Choose Seconds for a source-time interval, then enter its start and end. A start of 60 and end of 180 describes a two-minute interval beginning one minute into the chosen title, not a three-minute duration starting there.
Frames use picture-count selection and require care with actual source timing. Do not assume a constant-rate arithmetic example certifies boundaries in variable or unusual material. The official point-to-point documentation warns that exact frame accuracy depends on the source. Retain your requested range separately from the observed accepted result.
Verify a short native output independently
Choose the intended preset, audio and subtitle resources and a new destination, then encode the bounded interval. Open the actual file rather than merely moving the source preview playhead. Compare the first wanted picture, first spoken word and ending, looking for extra lead-in or missing action.
Check duration and any retained chapter or caption behavior. Selecting an excerpt changes its relation to full-source time; an unchanged companion sidecar may no longer match the new local start. Do not pad or retime content only to make a duration field agree with an approximate range note.
Keep the accepted excerpt distinct from its parent
Record the chosen title, units and observed boundaries with the derivative. Preserve the original when another selection or exact-boundary workflow may be needed. A successful encode establishes an output file, not that the selected chapter was the right performance or that every required resource survived.
SocialVidDownloader’s verified trim and split utilities have their own supported controls and limits; they do not expose HandBrake’s native title-selection interface. This guide does not claim universal frame-exact cutting or source recovery. If the accepted interval differs from the task, revise it or use an appropriate permitted editing workflow and verify that actual result before sharing.
Worked example
Example: an editor enters 60–180 seconds but expects three minutes of material. The saved file correctly covers approximately two minutes of the chosen title. Checking the first and last meaningful action exposes the selection misunderstanding before the excerpt is delivered as a complete requested section.
