WhatsApp Status visibility and expiry are not file retention
WhatsApp Status is a time-limited sharing feature, not an independent video archive. Its audience controls and expiry answer different questions from whether you possess a complete file you are allowed to keep. SocialVidDownloader does not provide a WhatsApp Status URL downloader, private viewer or credential-based retrieval workflow.

Separate visibility, expiry and possession
WhatsApp's published privacy information describes Status updates disappearing after 24 hours. That feature lifetime concerns the Status presentation; it does not establish that every source file or separately authorized retained copy has the same lifetime.
Audience control is a separate question. Use the current official app's Status privacy guidance to understand who receives the update under the relevant sharing configuration. Do not assume that all contexts have identical audience rules or that a visible item is public content for a web downloader.
A preview, chat reference or screenshot is not a complete local video. File possession requires an actual available recording, and permission to retain or reuse it requires its own evidence.
Check your own source before relying on Status
If you created the video, locate and verify your original or intended export before sharing it as Status. Keep a permitted local source in a deliberate location rather than treating the temporary presentation as its only copy.
Open the retained file and compare duration, picture and sound. A thumbnail in an app can represent media without demonstrating a complete export suitable for another device or editing project.
If the video came from someone else, ask for the specific authorized file and intended scope. Viewing an update does not automatically establish permission to retain, edit or redistribute it.
Use official controls without inventing access
Read WhatsApp's current Status privacy instructions and the actual controls available in your installed app. Settings and sharing contexts can change, so avoid applying an old universal contact rule without checking current evidence.
Do not provide passwords, session data or account access to a third-party site claiming it can retrieve every private Status. This project offers no such workflow. Expiry is not a reason to bypass the audience or account boundary.
If an owner wants to supply a durable permitted recording, request an ordinary supported file handoff through their chosen official workflow. Do not call a chat or invitation link a universally accessible video URL.
Verify an authorized retained copy separately
Once you have an authorized actual file, inspect its local availability and playback. Keep the source context and permission notes where your retention task needs them, without exposing private chat participants or tokens.
If a cloud location is used, verify the required bytes are available rather than relying on a listing. Test any backup through a separate recovery workflow. Those checks concern retention and are not features of Status expiry.
A useful outcome may be an owner-provided file, an original you already possess, or no permitted retained recording. Do not replace an unsupported retrieval with a fake successful download or an indexable Status tool promise.
Worked example
Example: a creator publishes a short Status but wants a durable archive. Keep and verify the creator's own permitted local source independently of the Status lifetime. A recipient who lacks that source should request an authorized file rather than submitting a private update reference to a supposed URL downloader.
