YouTube live streams and premieres: availability limits

A scheduled premiere, an ongoing live stream and a completed recording are different source states. SocialVidDownloader rejects ongoing live streams and does not offer live capture. For a premiere or archived event, wait until a real playable recording is available, then analyze its supported individual URL without assuming every event produces a downloadable archive.

Identify the event state before analyzing

A waiting page can exist before the intended media is available. A scheduled time or countdown does not establish a completed source file. Copying that page repeatedly cannot create the unavailable recording.

YouTube documents Premieres as a way to experience a new video together at a scheduled event. A premiere is not simply another name for a live camera broadcast, even though both can involve real-time audience interaction.

Check what the page currently presents: a schedule, an ongoing event or a completed playable recording. Preserve that observation when reporting a failure instead of describing every event page as an ordinary finished video.

Check the current product boundary

The backend normalization guard returns live_unsupported for an ongoing live source. That is an intentional capability boundary, not an invitation to submit a temporary manifest or run repeated analysis attempts.

SocialVidDownloader does not promise scheduled-event capture, continuous recording or a future job that automatically waits for an event. Its supported download workflow begins with currently processable individual media.

The page can still identify a known YouTube host and item while extraction cannot offer a usable completed result. Provider detection is an earlier step than verified format availability.

Treat an archive as a new availability check

YouTube's archive guidance describes conditions for platform-generated recordings. That does not guarantee that every event will produce the full archive a viewer wants, nor that the public downloader can process it immediately.

After the event ends, open the source and check whether the intended recording is actually available. A completed event may still have access restrictions, processing delays or an unavailable recording.

Analyze the supported individual URL when a real recording exists and your use is authorized. Use the actual returned formats rather than inferring resolution or duration from the event's promotional information.

Verify the resulting recording and keep alternatives honest

If processing succeeds, open the completed local file and check duration, picture and sound at several points. Do not claim that it includes a full event merely because the title refers to that event.

If the public workflow cannot provide the needed recording, ask the owner for a permitted export. Do not supply account credentials or bypass restrictions to turn an unsupported state into apparent success.

Report the event state and failing stage. Those details distinguish a deliberate live-content rejection from another source extraction or file-result issue.

Worked example

Example: a YouTube event is currently live and the tool returns live_unsupported. Wait for a genuinely available permitted recording rather than trying another live URL form. If an archive appears later, analyze that current recording and verify its actual duration; an ended event alone does not certify a full archive.
