Final Cut cannot share a clip still referencing its camera
A Final Cut clip can play from a connected camera while its library import remains incomplete. If sharing is blocked and the clip shows a camera icon, reconnect the original camera, card or available archive and complete the documented reimport. Preserve that source until the imported result is verified.

Check the alert and the clip’s reference state
Identify the affected project and the actual alert before changing storage. Apple documents a camera icon on a clip whose import did not finish, including an interrupted import. Playback can still rely on the connected camera or available camera archive; that is not proof of an independent imported library copy.
The current import guide distinguishes Missing Camera when that camera-backed media is unavailable from Missing File when a source file has moved, been deleted or its volume is disconnected. Keep these observations separate. A general offline label should not automatically lead to linking an arbitrary similarly named file.
For the camera-reference case, find the affected clips and retain their source identity. A library database, visible filmstrip or previously successful preview does not establish that all media needed for a share is now on the library storage device.
Reconnect the correct original source
Apple’s share troubleshooting says reimport requires the original media on its camera, memory card or camera archive. Connect the intended source and check that the library’s media storage has sufficient capacity. Do not erase the card or remove the archive merely to refresh the import list.
Compare recognizable content and recording context before proceeding. Reused filenames across shoots can make an unrelated card look plausible. Keep the existing project intact while establishing that the source actually contains the required recording.
If the original is no longer available, inspect your verified authorized retained sources and consult current Apple guidance. This operation does not manufacture missing captured frames. Report the unresolved source rather than claiming recovery because another short movie has a similar title.
Use Reimport from Camera/Archive for the affected scope
The documented route is to select the affected browser clip, or its event when reimporting that scope, then choose File → Import → Reimport from Camera/Archive. The import guide says Final Cut connects to the camera or archive through this workflow. Review the selected scope before starting.
Monitor the import’s completion. Apple explains that media import can continue in the background after the import window closes, with progress visible in Background Tasks. A closed dialog therefore should not be counted as completion.
Keep the camera, card or archive available while the necessary work finishes. Check current installed-version help if a control differs. Repeating a cancelled operation without checking its progress can reproduce the same dependency instead of repairing it.
Verify the library media and the share separately
Inspect the affected clip after the import finishes. Play recognizable moments at the opening, middle and end, and listen to required sound. Confirm that the intended recording, rather than a different take, is available in the project.
Use a controlled receiving or library check while preserving the original source. The point is to establish usable retained media, not simply to make a warning disappear. A visible clip name is insufficient evidence that a complete source was acquired.
Then try the required share and inspect the exported file. Check its pictures, sound and boundaries in the intended destination. A repaired import and a successful usable export are separate outcomes; neither should be inferred solely from the other.
Keep other share failures on their own diagnostic path
An export can still fail for reasons outside this camera-reference task. Read the new alert and identify its stage rather than repeatedly reimporting every clip. A storage failure, missing dependency or unusable frame needs its own evidence.
For an editing handoff, use the library-media guide to define copy scope and external dependencies. Importing one camera clip does not package an entire library for a colleague. Preserve source recordings and production context according to the actual archive task.
SocialVidDownloader does not operate camera import controls, collect Final Cut libraries or restore deleted camera media. A completed permitted video file can be an editing input, but this native import repair belongs to Final Cut. Keep the original source until the agreed retention and delivery checks pass.
Worked example
Illustrative case: an editor closes Final Cut before a card import finishes. The clip later plays while the card is attached, yet sharing reports a camera dependency. The editor reconnects the intended card, reimports the affected clip, waits for completion and verifies both the retained project media and the new export before reusing the card.
