Check and replace an incomplete video download

An incomplete transfer can play its opening section yet fail later. Check the browser's completion state, local duration, and playback near the end. If data is missing, obtain a fresh complete copy from the authorized source; changing the extension or player cannot reconstruct the absent content.

Look beyond a successful opening frame

Find the copy associated with the relevant browser entry. An interrupted entry or a temporary filename is strong evidence that saving did not finish. Do not confuse a new attempt with an earlier file that happened to open successfully.

Check the reported duration and seek to several positions, including near the end. Some damaged files can reveal metadata or an opening sequence before failing. A thumbnail and a readable title do not establish completeness. Compare the local behavior with the expected source duration, allowing for ordinary rounding instead of inventing an exact match requirement.

Distinguish missing data from incompatible playback

If one player fails but another handles the same complete file throughout, compatibility may explain the symptom. If several compatible players stop at the same position, missing or damaged data becomes more plausible. Media inspection can identify streams and metadata, but a readable header alone is not a full playback test.

Check whether the destination is a cloud placeholder or disconnected drive before deciding the media is corrupt. Make an available local copy for the test. Keep the original source link and selected format so that a replacement can be compared meaningfully. A different edit or repost is not a controlled substitute.

Troubleshoot the transfer and verify its replacement

Inspect available storage, destination write access, and connection stability. Reanalyze the original URL if the file link expired. Wait for a ready result, start the save, and monitor its browser entry until completion. Keep the device awake and destination available while transferring.

Open the replacement and test its beginning, middle, and end. Only then remove the unusable duplicate if you no longer need its error evidence. If the replacement fails identically, record the exact stopping point, codec information, and transfer status. That helps separate a source or processing defect from an interrupted save. Do not label a partial copy as successful merely because the first few seconds look correct.

Worked example

Illustrative case: a ten-minute authorized clip opens normally but stops two minutes in, and the browser records an interrupted transfer. A fresh completed save plays through the ending. The early preview was real, but it did not demonstrate a complete local file.
